Jamia Millia Islamia - Introduction
Jamia Millia Islamia, a facility established in Aligarh in the United Provinces of India in 1920, had been transformed by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. a Central University. Both Jamia and Millia are terms for “national” and “university,” respectively, in Urdu.
Its growth from a small college in pre-independence India to a national university with its main campus in New Delhi, offering integrated education from pre-kindergarten to research in specialised fields, is the story of a people who surmounted all barriers to watch it develop gradually and showed perseverance, commitment, and vision. Sarojini Naidu, the Indian nightingale, claimed that they “made up the Jamia Millia stone by stone and sacrifice by sacrifice.”

First chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia:
HAKIM AJMAL KHAN
The main catalyst for the founding of Jamia and its inaugural Chancellor, a position he maintained until his death in 1927, was Hakim Ajmal Khan.
He came from a bunch of croakers and was a superb croaker (hakim) by calling. He is currently better recognised as a major loyalist, political heretic, and the founder of the Indian National Congress (1921). He was also close friends with Mahatma Gandhi.
His dream was to create an educational foundation that was free from governmental supervision ever since he made an effective donation to help lift the MAO College into a council scenario. When the need of 1924 was no longer an issue, he remained steadfast in his duty to Jamia. He devoted the bigger part of his remaining time to helping the government support Jamia by frequently relieving it of its problems and financial hardships.
